Over the past 40+ years at the University of Michigan (U-M), W. Jean Tennyson has served in various Human Resource-related capacities ranging from Consultant to Director. Her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management and Communications, as well as Master’s level coursework in Educational Leadership, are from Eastern Michigan University.

Overall, her broad and diverse background at the U-M has included opportunities to work effectively with various levels of leadership, prospective and current staff and faculty, and with various community partners. She demonstrates an on-going commitment to diversity, fairness and equal opportunity in support of staff recruitment and retention as follows: serving as a co-facilitator of the U-M’s VOICES of the Staff Career Development Network Group; creating opportunities to present Human Resource Development career-related workshop and programs; and accepting opportunities to represent the U-M at external community events as a recruiter, speaker, workshop presenter and panel member. W. Jean’s recognition and awards include nominations for the U-M’s 2010 University Human Resources Delivering Excellence Award and the U-M’s 2005 Candace Johnson Staff Award for Excellence. In 2011, she received a University Human Resources Delivering Excellence Award and in 1996 she was the recipient of the Woman of the Year in Leadership Award, presented by the U-M’s Women of Color Task Force.
